Paper green alternatives
Yanko Design has a couple of terrific green alternatives to some common stationery items. The first item is Stapleless Paper developed by Sherwood Forlee. This simple solution to staple waste works for up to 20 sheets of paper and is self-explanatory - just follow the pictures! You can check out this Yanko Design veteran’s portfolio for more ideas & concepts.

The next item is developed by Korean designers Wonjae Lee, Sunkyu Kim & Sangjun Hahn. Their Paper Wrap concept is an eco-friendly substitute for the strangely addictive, yet equally annoying product - Bubble Wrap. The package protection comes flat with corrugated holes which are punched through to create shock absorbers. I’m not sure how much more effective this is than regular bubble wrap, but credit is due to the design team for thinking “inside-the-box”.

feltron’s annual report
Our friend Nicholas Felton has released his 2008 Annual Report. Capturing his life in pie-charts, Grand Theft Auto miles driven and Stellas consumed, this year is funnier and more elaborate than previous years’ reports. When folded, the front lists all his activities of 2008, while the back is a wonderfully done time-line laid out against an atlas backdrop. Our printer took one look at the design and nearly fainted. It took a brand new Hiedelberg to handle this one.
Here are some images of the report magically coming off the press at our printers. A tricky 3 color job that involved metallics, detailed graphics and difficult registration, 3,000 copies are available either folded or flat through Feltron. If you’re inspired or just looking for ways to punish yourself, you can track your own data and eventually create your own report at Daytum. This site which he and partner Ryan Case are responsible for, will help unleash your inner obsessive compulsiveness and make you smile.

ambigram round-up
Ever since reading The Da Vinci Code, I have been intrigued by how ambigrams are created and presented. I came across Logo Design Love’s blog and they have a nice round-up of ambigram logos done in 2008. One of my favorites is mentioned in the comments section - the 20th anniversary logo for The Princess Bride. The logo and the background environment are integrated beautifully!

The Boogie Man
Boogie is a photographer from Belgrade who is captivated by the anti-cultures of society, specifically people and events surrounding violence, drugs, and revolution. He began photo-documenting scenes of anarchy during the civil war that ravaged his country of Serbia in the 1990s.

From there, he’s crossed the globe snapping vividly gritty photos in Istanbul, Tokyo, Brazil and finally New York City, where he has currently made his home. It’s amazing what this man has seen and been through to capture these moments.
