radiofonografo stereofonico

We just learned that Italian designer’s Achille Castiglioni’s wonderfully named Radiofonografo Stereofonico is being re-issued. “The new Brionvega Radiofonografo is faithful to the original in all the details; in fact, it still has a record player for listening to vinyl records, but it is made with modern technology that greatly enhances its performance.” This is making our hearts thump a little louder!

An Immigrant Party to Remember

April 21, 2008 will go down in history as the night Wyclef Jean shook up Hong Kong with his showmanship and charisma. Wyclef held a private concert at MO Bar in Central to promote his latest album “Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant”. This show is part of Sony BMG’s live and unplugged series - previous performances featured artists such as Alicia Keys and Coco Lee.

The concert had everything you could ask for. The bongo-playing, water-spraying, kung-fu fighting, crowd-surfing, blinged-out musician/producer/humanitarian did backflips on the bar tops, played the guitar with his mouth, and had every guy and doll in the audience rockin’ to his mix of solo songs, Fugees nostalgia, and even some 80s disco fever.

Thanks to Nora for the hook up!

Finger-flippin good

The new Kraak and Smaak video titled “Squeeze Me” is simply superb. This reminds me of a Hewlett Packard commercial on steroids!

bjork, the volta tour

bjork_volta.jpg

I was lucky enough to be front row at Björk’s Volta concert last night in Hong Kong. Here are a few snaps of the ‘mistress of mechanized mischief’ who put on an amazing, stunning show with the help of Icelandic Brass Girls, keyboardist Jonas Sen, percussionist Chris Corsano, Damian Taylor on the ‘Reactable’ and long-time Björk collaborator Mark Bell.

Björk was initially a little reclusive but by ‘Army Of Me’ she was totally rocking the crowd like a flaming inferno. The most inspiring tracks of the night were Earth Intruders, Army Of Me, Hyperballad, Bachelorette, Who Is It?, Unravel, Hunter, and the spectacular finale, Declare Independence.
