growing art
Japanese are so good at controlling the growing process, remember the square-shaped water melon and all sorts of green house produce they bring to live? This patty field art is simply another amazement they recently bring us.
creative city now available
Creative City is now available in select bookshops and boutiques around Hong Kong. Creative City is a map with a twist. Devoted to celebrating Hong Kong’s creativity, it features direct input from some of the city’s established and emerging designers, writers and other creative entrepreneurs.
This idea came about when we discovered the lack of resources to give to friends and visitors who were curious about what more Hong Kong had to offer. We wanted to create a map that was functional and well-designed, and encouraged users to explore, experience and see the city the way we see it — from a unique and creative vantage point.
Packed with six key district maps and much more, this new release from the studio has taken us, in partnership with former journalist Louise Wong, the best part of 18 months of research, design, writing and production. Thank you to all the creative contributors and tireless and talented team of designers who have worked on Creative City and we welcome comments and feedback from the community.
Creative City is sold for HK$28 (US$3.75) at Dymocks at IFC and K11, G.O.D, Kelly & Walsh, Kapok, AO: The Photo Book Centre, Swindon Books and others. For any overseas orders, please contact us for more information and details to purchase.
seen it before?
In 18 hours, this hipster-driven site will be launching on the National Day. At the Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, one party will be celebrating the birth of Seen, another lifestyle portal! Let’s see if it’s worth seeing later on.

Our friends over at Start From Zero have been at it for a while now, and creating some really great products here in Hong Kong. Check out their limited edition poster below and other gear.
see through me
Swedish artist Helga Steppan’s See Through series is a personal audit of her belongings arranged by color. It’s a fascinating discovery of one’s personality through objects, and even more interesting as it’s so stark once it’s sifted into the different hues. Here are all her possessions in the white category.

good morning technology
Our friends from Good Morning Technology have been hard at work. Alongside the launch of their new bike product Copenhagen Parts, they’ve designed a lighting range called Archetype for LUCEPLAN that debuted at the design fair Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010. We first met Good Morning Technology when partners Mads Kjøller Damkjær and Lars Thomsen visited Whitespace and they’ve been kind at sharing their latest news with us.
With their lamp for Luceplan, they set out to achieve something different. The intentionally archetypical shape and the familiar action of screwing in a bulb accompany the discovery of a light source that is an alternative to incandescent lighting. The action is also a metaphor. Archetype is in fact the combination of source and lamp; “by combining high technology and innovative light diffusion in simple, clean and formal lines, Archetype builds a bridge between before and now…”
The new lamp is the logical continuance of the sustainable path that Luceplan has been taking for some time now: the uninterrupted research into the functionality of lighting devices. In this case, the LEDs are one of the most interesting energy-saving solutions of recent years and they are characterized by long life, high output and no maintenance costs. Besides the lamp GMT also designed a range of armatures to be used.
introducing greyscale
Greyscale, our nascent brand of stationery and products, was launched at Kapok’s new store on Thursday night. Press, family, friends and the usual suspects all showed up to drink, eat cupcakes and soak up some of owner Arnault’s rays of retail love on the Sun Street, joining neighbours such Sonjia, Chen Mi Ji and Vilebrequin.
Press walked off with one of our limited edition tote bags, but customers will also get one if they bag more than 200HKD worth of Greyscale goodies! Our current collection of notecards with names such as ‘Dandelion Storm’, ‘Lotus Lilies’ and ‘Sticks and Stones’ are available as assorted boxed sets retailing for 180HKD or single packs for 60HKD. Contact us for more details or join our list for further news, events and updates.
Greyscale now available at Kapok, 3 Sun Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong.

return of polaroid
i love polaroid & can’t be happier to see its return! after it’s discontinuation in 2007 - the pic1000 is the first model that will be reproduced. i collected a few instant cameras that i can’t wait to add 1 more to my collection.

What is more interesting i found related site to polaroid which sells very interesting film such as this one called fade to black! the effect is more than spooky but with a hint of artsy originality.
a bigger vision mission is set behind this polaroid concept - impossible project!
revival - revival!

merci the cool
read from NY Times about a new boutique in paris called merci! this store is quoted: (a) all the rage in Paris; (b) in the ultratrendy Marais district; (c) a “concept store” mixing fashion and design; and (d) one in which the profits go to charity. Like those Northwest pilots who accidentally flew 150 miles past their destination last fall, I was over it before I got there.
this is making my travel planning more exciting & ‘dilematic’ coz i have to struggle amongst where to go next! life is full of choices!
