eat pray love
We loved the book but will we love the scents? Fresh comes out with a trio of fragrances based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestseller, Eat, Pray, Love.
One of my favourite scents is their Pomegranate Anise, but it will be interesting to see how they capture her story in these simple fragrances, inspired by three locations, Italy, India and Indonesia.
Julia Roberts stars in the film with the same name, opening on August 13th.
rendez-vous round-up
We ended up in Paris with the CIPHER team on their first showing during Paris Fashion Week at Rendez-Vous Homme. We were given an unusual store-front space on Rue Saint Merri, which we discovered was owned by Pierre Cardin and had his name appearing everywhere. The four days went by in a blur as a great mix of buyers, friends and random strangers walked into the showroom thinking it was a shop and wanting to buy the sneakers. Here are the some of the highlights from the show.
Entrance to Rendez-Vous on the 2nd day.
Collin and Marika in the Espace Evolution showroom.
The black and white Vertigos, just hours before they vanished from the front window.
The rest of the CIPHER collection.
The Seditionaries sitting next to the Sentients.
Inside Rendez-Vous, where the greenhouse effect took place on the upper floors.
The front window display.
Marika with “Mr Jones”, our mannequin.
Jenny’s love tattoo by Rude.
Thanks to all the people who made this trip possible and whom we met throughout the week. The Whitespace team, Antoine, Daniel and Nic at Surface to Air, Zenith and Jonathan Morss at Mors Footwear, Moose at Sneaker Lounge, Ashley Marc Houvelle, Jenny and Alex at OFR shop, Ivan at T-Frankin, Pak Man and Isabella and numerous others. We hope to be back soon.
garage turenne
We took a break from our show and checked out nearby Capsule. Tucked away in a garage on Rue de Turenne, we not only found some familiar faces but some fantastic distressed type at the front entrance.
Ground floor full of brands and the ubiquitous Vitamin Water.
We ran into Arnault from Kapok upstairs.
Also caught up with Jeff and Nico over at Staple.
Wonderfully weathered and layered French garage type.
derriere
Out of all the meals we enjoyed in Paris, Derriere was one of the best we had. Although we took the late seating at 11pm, the berry mojitos and pineapple caiparinhas from next-door Andy Wahloo (with their wonderfully type-set drinks menu!) staved off the hunger and we took turns wandering around the house, looking for the ’smoking room’, which was in fact hidden behind a large Narnia-like closet. circus antics
Supper clubs seem to be making a quiet comeback. The latest to open is Circus London, located smack in the centre of Covent Garden. Despite mixed reviews on the Southern-style food, the boudoir-meets-space-ship interiors by Tom Dixon and performances by contortionists with nipple tassles will take your mind off the 20 pound cocktails you’ll likely be sipping. Either way we’re intrigued by the concept and the candy slickness of the decor and identity.

barcelona we love you
Barcelona, 1 of my most favorite city is now represented in such a diverse interesting way through typography at Show Us Your Type. These two jump to me saying it’s so Barcelona…and even reminds me of Pedro Almodovar. The next city will be Berlin, stay tuned.

merci the cool
read from NY Times about a new boutique in paris called merci! this store is quoted: (a) all the rage in Paris; (b) in the ultratrendy Marais district; (c) a “concept store” mixing fashion and design; and (d) one in which the profits go to charity. Like those Northwest pilots who accidentally flew 150 miles past their destination last fall, I was over it before I got there.
this is making my travel planning more exciting & ‘dilematic’ coz i have to struggle amongst where to go next! life is full of choices!
