A new ‘lifestyle’ hub has opened up in the Houngkou District of Shanghai, following the trend of restoring historic buildings and turning them into creative commercial spaces — everywhere it seems, except Hong Kong. Called 1933 Shanghai, the former power plant, abattoir and factory is now calling tenants such as Design Miami and American Apparel home.
Other noteworthy spaces devoted to arts and culture in Asia include Old School, Singapore and 798 Space in Beijing.
