Whitespace is pleased to welcome a new member to our family, Cinda Ki. Apart from being a designer, she is crafty in her own time by starting Planet Marshmallow. She sell hand-made wool felted accessories, such as necklaces, rings and earrings.
Here's what Cinda says about the inspiration behind her label, "One day, I dreamed of Planet Marshmallow. Many tasty creatures came out to welcome me. They brought me to explore the planet. I saw an elephant travel by a hot balloon and clouds with rainbow tears, it was a amazing adventure. I know they are real somewhere in this universe."
Planet Marshmallow held their first parade at JCCAC in Shek Kip Mei and all the items were sold out! We look forward to seeing more of their lovely creations. Check out www.facebook.com/PlanetMarshmallow for latest news and details.
Who could blend colors better than Moroccan in their rugs? Look at these fantastic rugs brought to you by Beldi - started by a couple from New York and Marrakech. They buy directly from the artisans to ensure fair prices, and they also pledge to donate 20% of all profits to charities in Morocco, like the SOS Children’s Village in Ait Ourir, outside Marrakech where they sponsor a young boy: www.sos-childrensvillages.org
Not many specialized speaker brands could focus solely on producing high end amp and speakers without accommodating the iPhone and iPod users' needs. Bang & Olufsen has addressed this concern with its new product Beolit 12 through it's new line B&O Play. Apple has not only transformed the computer world but telecommunication, photographing and audio aspect of our lives. Hats off - Steve Jobs.
Inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective, Muuto is a brand that is offering something fresh in the form of products. They have a simple, single premise — they "handpick the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape and others still, draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a vase, a lamp or any other everyday product?"
To many of us, Scandinavian design already signifies style and sensibility. with Muuto, we are seeing a new wave of talent reach our doorstep, or desk, or wall. Muuto is available at Flea & Cents and in stores around the world.
Behold the Puma Blackout Ping Pong Table. It's an idea we've had brewing for ages but glad to see that New York-based Aruliden has done a nice job of giving our favourite past time a slick new look. It's sounds like something we'd want in our studio with its angular black ash wood legs, a matte black laminate surface with a white powder-coated metal frame and a steel mesh net — it also includes two paddles and a set of balls. The only downside is that it has no wheels. Each one is custom made-to-order via Conran Shop.
The inventive genes seem to be working really well in the Dysons. James Dyson is reputed for his bagless vacuum cleaner while his younger son Jake has inherited his father's inquisitive mind and developed this CSYS LED Task Light which refines thermal management and electronics systems producing a bright warm white colour with astonishing efficiency. The thermal management heat pipe technology cools the LED’s to ensure peak performance from the LED’s for 37+ years. The design reminds me of the Artemide One Line Flu Table Lamp.
Whitespace launches a new edition of totebags in our series, "The Only..." The latest bags are inspired by the notion of celebrity with "The Only Game is Fame" and "The Only Freedom is Stardom". Made of thick black denim and screenprinted in white with a handy inside pocket, these totes are strong enough to carry all your stuff and can easily fit a laptop. As usual our totesbags are limited edition run of 100 per style, and are available through our website or at Kapok on Sun Street, G/F. 3, Sun Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong. Pick up one for yourself or for your friends for Christmas! Show us your love!
If you love Scandinavian design as much as we do, then Vie is a must-stop in Hong Kong. This shop is the first spin-off of Vein — a unique retail space that stocks brands from the Nordic circle — and we are already liking what we see! Continuing the same belief and retail concept, you'll find carefully curated and handpicked selections of laid-back womens and menswear from brands such as Filippa K, Muuto, Marimekko, Won Hundred Men's, Dagmar, Stylein, Kosta Boda and Aarikka, together with character items for home & interior. Most of these brands are not available elsewhere in Hong Kong, so the owners behind Vien and Vie have brought their passion and love for Scandinavia right to Star Street. We couldn't be happier.
Whitespace has built the soon-to-be launched website for Vien, and look forward to their opening celebrations in November. Read what The D'Vine has to say about the shop here or visit Vein & Vie, G/F, 2D Star Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong, tel: +852 2528 4988.
PA Design sells die-cut post-its shaped like wristwatches, gummed so they can be joined at the wrist. A cute way to put notes where you're sure to glance at them.
