Tilda Swinton never fails us, she keeps on bringing us surprises with her impeccable acting and image. This time she is playing the mother of a school child who behaved like a sociopath and killed the other mates at school in the film We Need To Talk About Kevin. I can't wait to see this movie in Hong Kong.
A film by Göran Hugo Olsson, The Black Power Mixtape is a brilliantly edited montage of lost 16mm footage shot by Swedish photographers in America from 1967-75; combined with audio interviews from some of today's leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars; and set to a music by Grammy-winner Questlove. A special screening at MoMA is being held by our friends over at React to Film
We loved the book but will we love the scents? Fresh comes out with a trio of fragrances based on Elizabeth Gilbert's bestseller, Eat, Pray, Love. One of my favourite scents is their Pomegranate Anise, but it will be interesting to see how they capture her story in these simple fragrances, inspired by three locations, Italy, India and Indonesia.
Julia Roberts stars in the film with the same name, opening on August 13th.
Objectified is the new documentary film from Gary Hustwit, the guy behind last year's hit Helvetica. Slated for early 2009 release, the new film is about the creative process, and will feature those who have an active role in shaping 'our manufactured environment' and 'our relationship to mass-produced objects' such as Dieter Rams, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Jonathan Ive and Hella Jongerius. Stay tuned as Whitespace will try and organize a screening for this film in Hong Kong.
