meet muuto

Inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective, Muuto is a brand that is offering something fresh in the form of products. They have a simple, single premise — they "handpick the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape and others still, draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a vase, a lamp or any other everyday product?"

To many of us, Scandinavian design already signifies style and sensibility. with Muuto, we are seeing a new wave of talent reach our doorstep, or desk, or wall. Muuto is available at Flea & Cents and in stores around the world.

odin chair

The Odin Chair, a project commissioned by Eight for boutique developer client Odin Property, has won Gold in the New Zealand Best Design Awards organised by The Designers Institute of New Zealand. Eight, who also designed the brand strategy, identity and communications for Odin Property, chose to engage acclaimed New Zealand designer Jamie McLellan to design the chair to enrich the living spaces of Odin's growing portfolio of mountain resort properties in Niseko, Japan.

"The brief was to draw from the pillars of the brand, and to fuse the simplicity of Scandinavian design with the aesthetic sensitivity of Japanese culture,” says McLellan. “I must say I am very pleased with the outcome, I always favour pure and essential silhouettes and an honest use of materials." The New Zealand Best Design Awards is an annual showcase of excellence in graphic, spatial, product and interactive design.

Odin Property is a boutique developer of high-end mountain resort properties in Japan. Situated in the heart of the village of Niseko, in snow-rich Hokkaido, their growing portfolio includes residential, hospitality and retail properties. creative city now available

Creative City is now available in select bookshops and boutiques around Hong Kong. Creative City is a map with a twist. Devoted to celebrating Hong Kong’s creativity, it features direct input from some of the city’s established and emerging designers, writers and other creative entrepreneurs. This idea came about when we discovered the lack of resources to give to friends and visitors who were curious about what more Hong Kong had to offer. We wanted to create a map that was functional and well-designed, and encouraged users to explore, experience and see the city the way we see it — from a unique and creative vantage point.

Packed with six key district maps and much more, this new release from the studio has taken us, in partnership with former journalist Louise Wong, the best part of 18 months of research, design, writing and production. Thank you to all the creative contributors and tireless and talented team of designers who have worked on Creative City and we welcome comments and feedback from the community.

Creative City is sold for HK$28 (US$3.75) at Dymocks at IFC and K11, G.O.D, Kelly & Walsh, Kapok, AO: The Photo Book Centre, Swindon Books and others. For any overseas orders, please contact us for more information and details to purchase.
