It's through the Vanishing Cultures Project (VCP) which I come across Taylor Wiedman who is a New York based photographer shooting Mustang for the group to raise funds and awareness. VCP is a nonprofit initiative which aims to assisting indigenous, traditional groups worldwide to preserve their culture by documenting their lifestyle through photography, research, and media, educating the public about these extinguishing values and cultures. The current project which spans till September 2012 is called Nomads No More, a theme about Mongolia. The below images shot by Taylor has been documented in the book Mustang: Lives and Landscapes of the Lost Tibetan Kingdom. Hundred percent of the proceeds of this book will go to the VCP, or order individual prints here!
Owl is my favorite bird because they are wise. I now have another reason to love them because Klaus Haapaniemi has done a beautiful job illustrating owl. Haapaniemi has created prints for Diesel, Clements Ribeiro and Marimekko before establishing his own collection. Klaus is well known for his illustrations, advertising art and clothing fabric prints. He has created a number of fanciful prints for the likes of iittala and Marimekko. The ornamental style of his designs has set a high differentiators from other artists.
When our graphic designer Rosalie announced she was getting married, we all knew the invitations would be lovely, but when we all gasped when she handed us a black envelope with hand-stamp gold lettering. The invite is beautifully designed and printed on thick card stock, and thoughtfully presented with a black and white cake string, holding together the directions and a little treat Yo Mama, our favourite frozen yogurt spot in Hong Kong.
Rosalie has been with Whitespace since the start, and we are so happy for her as she begins the next chapter with Arthur. We love you Rosalie and congratulations from all of us at the studio! XOXO
Here's an excerpt on the creative process from their blog—"The posters and hand outs feature oddly coloured shots of fruit and vegetables that we literally nailed to our wall in the studio and shot in high res. The rationale behind the odd colouring was to engage the viewer to sub-consiencly question the produce they are looking at, and in conjunction with the branding statements begin them on the process of questioning the origin and seasonality of produce they consume in everyday life."
We were WOW'd to receive a snapshot from our friends vacationing in the Maldives of the W Insider — a project we worked on with Starwood Hotels for the W Hotels brand. Whitespace conceptualized, designed and edited a broadsheet paper for the brand, filled with images, articles and interviews, that is now distributed throughout the region. So nice to see it in action!
Based in Brooklyn, Parliament of Owls an independent collective that does some fantastic illustration and graphic design work. These coasters for The Cranky Pressman caught our eye and are available for purchase through the letterpress's shop. The collective also recently completed a website for Frank Sturges Reps.
Our friend Li-Ting is a fan of all things artsy and quirky, and she referred to this map from You And Me The Royal We for her wedding invitation we are helping her to design. We love it when our friends love cool stuff.
